Ann GreeneAnn Greene, E-RYT 500, teaches students to realign their bodies, minds and hearts. As a yoga teacher, she has an uncanny ability to talk students easily into the seemingly impossible. They lose your inhibitions and stretch their limits physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Ann has studied yoga since 1979. Her passion for yoga eventually led her to the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, where she became director of the Kirpalu yoga teacher training program. She leads retreats, workshops and yoga teacher trainings internationally and here in the Berkshires.

Cofounder of Ashaya Yoga, Ann enjoys refined alignment that encourages the heart to open and expand as the body strengthens and heals.

From Ann

In 1988 I was living and working in Boston, managing the city’s Refugee Education and Employment program drinking three cups of coffee a day, worrying about the state of the world and ignoring my own body. At that time, I read Bernie Siegel’s book, Love, Medicine and Miracles and realized that I was living an unhealthy lifestyle. A friend of mine told me about the healing benefits of yoga and I signed up for a class.  I found myself dissolving layers of tension and relaxing for the first time in my life. I started to feel more hopeful about life and the world. A few months later I went to a Welcome Weekend at Kripalu Center in Massachusetts.  I completely fell in love with yoga and meditation.

It was the first time in my life that I was invited to tune into my body’s inner wisdom and move from within. Practicing yoga in this way opened my heart and soul. I moved to Kripalu two months later. At the age of 28, I found myself learning basic life lessons- how to breathe, walk, chew, feel and communicate in life affirming ways. I am grateful for the years that I lived there and all of the lessons learned.

In the 7 years I lived there I was steeped in a yogic lifestyle practicing yoga, pranayama and meditation and doing seva (selfless service) in community.

I led the Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training from 1995 through 1999. I was trained in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, which involved body dialogue and reflective awareness on emotions and sensations and offered these sessions privately and at Kripalu Center.

In the late 90s I was able to study with many visiting teachers to Kripalu and was influenced by many emerging yoga traditions. In 1998 I began studying Anusara Yoga and was certified in 2005. I led Immersions and Teacher Trainings in that method until I released my license in 2012.

Through Anusara, I realized there was much more to the postures than I had known. I discovered the power of refined alignment to both prevent and heal injuries. In addition, I studied with Prof. Douglas Brooks, world renown tantric scholar, where I developed a deeper appreciation for the philosophical distinctions within various yoga traditions and their differing world views. Todd and I decided to synthesize all of our teachings and cofounded Ashaya Yoga in 2012.  I am grateful for what I received and am now in a phase of exploration and evolution.

Ann Greene teachingI teach a number of programs at Kripalu Center which is 10 minutes from our home.  These include Partner Yoga for Couples, Cross Country Skiing and Yoga, Snowshoeing and Yoga, Realigning Body, Mind and Spirit and a 5-day Ashaya Yoga Retreat.

I have practiced and studied various forms of meditation including the Vipassana method as taught be SN Goenka and Insight Meditation through various teachers at Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA.

I bring love, passion, and creativity to my teaching. I teach workshops at local yoga centers, Kripalu Center.

I love refined alignment that serves a deeper embodiment and awakening of the heart.
