“Bhakti yoga is not for the faint of heart.”

We live in a time when we can no longer allow a world of lies, greed, deceit and anger diminish our basic sense of decency, steal our joy, and turn us from the possibilities of our own best nature. What’s a yogi to do?
One thing we can do is turn toward the opposite of these forces and return to the power of the true Heart, to draw on its support, and to stay steady within it as we engage the difficult challenges of our world. And one way we can do this is to turn toward a path of yogic spiritual love grounded in attitudes, values, perspectives, commitments, and practices associated with Bhakti as a yoga.
But how can Bhakti yoga help us navigate this catastrophic world we live in? As Tina Turner might have sung, "What's love got to do with it?"
Drawing on a number of foundational texts in yoga philosophy, we’ll explore contours of the courageous heart from Vedantic, Tantric and Bhakti sources as we ask ourselves such questions as: What is the source of the power of the heart? What is devotion to it? How can we stand more fully in and for ourselves and our values? What holds us back? And what is the relationship of the heart to the external world full of challenges and chaos?
