Yoga is like planting a seed of truth. When you practice yoga, you nourish the seed of your self. The seed sprouts and grows into what it’s intended to be.
Starting yoga was really challenging for me. I had to overcome my family and friends warning me to stay away from it. My longing for yoga was met with such negativity and nonsupport, I could barely hear my own heart. I had to figure out my own path and make my own decisions.
Yoga opened my eyes and showed me the truth of life, what life could be. I had a glimpse of experiencing a little bit of heaven on earth and I fell in love with that idea, with that real possibility.
The seed of truth was planted in my heart and yoga helped nourish that seed.

Teaching yoga is a natural extension of the practice of yoga. In the process of teaching, two things rise to the surface – Satya (truth) and Tapas (heat of transformation). Knowing your truth and living it bring a sense of confidence and courage. Living your purpose puts the anxious part of the mind at ease. You stop being a seeker and you become a finder. Purpose becomes your North Star, your compass to the truth of your life.
When you align with your truth, you flow in your purpose. Then, great things happen.
My process of becoming a teacher sparked in me the deep desire to know myself, to know what life is about, to know what my life is about. At first, I was afraid to teach. Being naturally shy and more inwardly focused, I was scared to come out of myself and talk in public. In grade school, I had a speech disfluency – I stuttered. I was so embarrassed any time I had to talk. Riddled with unworthiness, I told myself that “no one cared what I had to say. And besides, I’ll just make a fool of myself.”
It took me years to overcome my shyness. Becoming a teacher was the perfect environment for me to face my fears. I have immense gratitude for my mentors and for my students who showered me with their appreciation and praise. Over time, I started to value who I was and what I had to say. I started to value myself as a teacher. I came to realize that sharing honestly from my heart was the biggest gift I could offer others. Gradually, I became fearless in sharing who I am and being who I am.

I came to realize that sharing honestly from my heart was the biggest gift I could offer others.
How do we develop the courage to break out of self-limiting beliefs and habit patterns? How do we develop the courage to face our fears? The answer is by taking a yoga teacher training.
I know that a lot of people right now are working on themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s all good and there are many paths of self-improvement. But there’s no better way to advance your practice and make a permanent shift in your life than to take a teacher training. The Ashaya Yoga Teacher Training provides the structure, practices, community, and expertise for you to take a huge step forward in your life.
To make big changes in our life, we need the loving, nonjudgmental support of a community who knows us and believes in us. This is one of the key features of the teacher training. Through sharing exercises, small group work, giving and receiving loving feedback, and honest and authentic communication, we transform each other’s limiting beliefs into empowering fountains of truth, light, and self-expression.

The sheer power of being seen through the eyes of grace, with unconditional love for who we are, for all of our gifts and vulnerabilities that make us uniquely us, melts the veils of conditioning that get in our way.
Love is the purifying component that puts us squarely in our heart, saturated with truth (Satya) and the heat of transformation (Tapas).
Tapas means heat, austerity, and longing. It’s the longing we have in our heart to transform our pain into beauty. It’s the motivation it takes to wake up in the morning and say to ourselves, “This is going to be a great day!” It’s the longing for more – more joy, more love, more light, more insight. Without tapas, we can easily descend into the abyss of resignation or depression, a state where we doubt our purpose or lose it altogether. In this state, we can sometimes give up all hope that life is worth living.
Years ago, when I took my teacher training, I wasn’t so interested in getting the professional skills, although sharpening my saw was important. It was the process of being held, heard, and uplifted by the directors and the community that really made me become the teacher I am today. And I’m still growing and evolving.
Everyone has a light inside their heart, a special gift that’s unique to them.
It’s so sad, but many people live their whole lives without ever seeing this in themselves. We are all one-of-a-kind masterpieces of the creative universe. And when we’re invited to express ourselves, and let our particular voice be heard, we contribute to the beauty and awakening of each other’s hearts in the world.
Grow your truth. Grow your courage to face your fears. Let go of what keeps you small. Live fully. Grow your capacity to influence others, open hearts, and be a light in this world. This is the essence of the purpose of yoga. By simply doing your practice, you shine your light out into the world.
